The Pechersk District Prosecutor's Office has reversed the police decision to close the case that was opened against "activists" rallying outside the Lavra.

On 18 January 2024, the Pechersk District Prosecutor's Office of Kyiv cancelled the decision of the investigator of the National Police to close the criminal case against activists who prevented the performance of religious rites near the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. The corresponding resolutions of the Prosecutor's Office were published by the Lavra's lawyer Archpriest Nikita Chekman on his Telegram channel.

The Prosecutor's Office noted that in the criminal proceedings "proper investigative actions were not carried out, and sufficient measures were not taken to obtain evidence".

In addition, the Prosecutor's Office said that the decision to close the case against the "activists" was made in violation of the requirements of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

Archpriest Nikita Chekman noted that the lawyers will initiate a change of the pre-trial investigation body, which at this stage is the Pechersk Department of the National Police in Kyiv.

"There is no trust in those police officers who cover the 'activists'. It is only unclear why they cover them, neglecting the rights of the faithful who pray for our people and our state in the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra," he said.

As reported, law enforcers closed more than 20 criminal cases against "activists" under the Lavra in one day.
