Metropolitan Theodosiy's house arrest extended

On October 4, 2024, the Sosnivka District Court of Cherkasy extended the measure of restraint for Metropolitan Theodosiy of Cherkasy and Kaniv in the form of nighttime house arrest. This was reported by Suspilne.

Metropolitan Theodosiy attended the court session via video link. Despite this, activists and provocateurs gathered outside the courthouse.

Prosecutor Vadym Kolomiyets filed a motion to extend the house arrest, arguing that Metropolitan Theodosiy could influence witnesses.

The defense, in turn, disagreed with the accusations, emphasizing that the prosecutor did not substantiate his statements: "The prosecutor mentioned that the suspect has a negative attitude toward the Ukrainian authorities and society. Let him provide evidence for that," the defense argued.

Metropolitan Theodosiy's lawyers also requested a different measure of restraint: "The prosecutor has proven nothing. He has not provided any evidence of influence on the witnesses. Therefore, I ask the court to deny the prosecutor's request and impose a personal commitment instead."

The UOC hierarch also addressed the judge, asking for the measure of restraint to be changed: "I support my defenders. I believe the prosecutor has not proven any risks. There are no risks, so I humbly ask the court to change the measure of restraint to personal commitments. I continue to conduct religious services and am undergoing treatment."

However, the court decided to extend the nighttime house arrest of the metropolitan for two months, until December 2. The next hearing is scheduled for October 8.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that a measure of restraint had been imposed on Metropolitan Theodosiy in connection with the fifth criminal case against him.
