Kniazhytsky tells who can denounce UOC, demanding to check ties with Russia

MP Mykola Kniazhytsky from the European Solidarity party told the Glavcom edition about the procedure for checking religious communities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) under the new Law No 8371.

According to him, the reason for the inspection may be complaints from local authorities, the media or public organizations.

“Appeals can come from state or local bodies, public organizations or media. The Civil Service itself can also initiate a review. After that, a study is conducted in the course of which a religious expertise may be appointed. If the evidence gathered as a result of such an examination confirms the existence of ties with a religious organization whose activity is banned by law, the State Service issues a prescription. The prescription specifies the identified ties and gives a deadline for their elimination. If the prescription is fulfilled, it is revoked, which means that the state has no claims against the organization. If not, the State Service will apply to the court,” said Kniazhytsky.

As reported by the UOJ, MP Volodymyr Vyatrovych said that judicial procedures of the ban will begin 9 months after the publication of the law.
